Regarding the ILA Strike
MEDIA STATEMENT FOR THE PHILADELPHIA WHOLESALE PRODUCE MARKET
October 1, 2024
We at the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market recognize the significant impact of the ongoing International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) port strike on our industry and the broader supply chain. These ports play a critical role in ensuring that fresh produce reaches consumers in a timely manner, and disruptions can have cascading effects on availability, pricing, and quality.
We urge all parties involved to work collaboratively towards a swift resolution that prioritizes the needs of workers while ensuring the efficient operation of our ports. A quick resolution is essential not only for the livelihood of those directly impacted by the strike but also for the health and well-being of communities that rely on a steady supply of fresh produce.
We readily support efforts that promote dialogue and foster solutions. The strength of our produce supply chain depends on the seamless operation of our ports, and we look forward to a resolution that benefits everyone involved. A speedy resolution ensures our customers and the consumers at large are getting the healthy food they need at a fair price.
